what this
site is about:
earthly pursuits was first envisioned as an
e-book reference library on all aspects of gardening. I have been collecting
old books and magazines to digitize and offer them online and as reprints
through print-on-demand technology. While this is still the goal,
I have
encountered serious problems trying to digitize these books and magazines
without damaging them. The technology to safely and quickly scan old books
costs around $100,000, so I will wait for more reasonably priced hardware.
In the meantime,
I am manually recreating the books, pamphlets, etc.
I had hoped to post
complete e-books, but since the process is very slow I am
posting chapters as they are finished. Chapters will be added on a regular basis until the books
are complete. Once complete, the books will be available as an e-book and in
hard copy through print-on-demand (meaning that the book won't actually be
printed until ordered but this usually doesn't take long). It will take some
time, however, to find a supplier and set up a system. Please be patient.
I have also included newer books that I have read
or want to read and there are other earthly things added from time to time.
This website has only a fraction of the content I intend
to make available. I have hundreds of books, magazines, pamphlets and
other materials to be digitized and prepared for this website.

Acquisition and

very time consuming and requires a lot of labor and skill. So, even though
